Job Corps: Job Corps is a career training and education program for students ages 16 through 24 who meet low-income requirements.  It is designed to help students find the path to personal and career success and all at no cost to eligible students.  If you are not ready to start college after high school graduation or are struggling in the traditional high school environment, Job Corps may be the solution.  To learn more about Job Corps visit their website at www.recruiting.jobcorps.gov  or call (800) 733-5627.  You can also stop by the Guidance Office for a brochure. 
 

Drug Prevention: The Kentucky Office of Drug control Policy and the Kentucky Agency for Substance Abuse, in affiliation with The Partnership at Drugfree.org, has a helpline dedicated to helping parents and families speak to a qualified social worker about their child's drug use or drinking. Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Senior standing – Plan to graduate from a U.S. high school in spring 2023.
  • Fall College Enrollment – Intend to enroll in an accredited four-year college beginning in fall 2023.
  • GPA – Earn a cumulative unweighted GPA of 3.5 or above.
  • Income – Demonstrate unmet financial need. We will consider applicants with family income up to $95,000. Last year’s cohort of new college scholarship recipients had a median family income of approximately $34,000.

Horatio Alger Association Career and Technical Scholarship Program   $2,500 Be pursuing a postsecondary education at a community college or technical school in the Fall,  must be Pell Grant eligible.

Kentucky Right to Life Scholarship    $1,000 Applicant must be a senior graduating from high school and applied/ been accepted to a two or four year institution and demonstrated dedicated pro-life activity and attitudes during his or her high school years and a commitment to a continued involvement in pro-life activities.

Design a Better Future   5-$10,000 tuition awards Design and work on a community improvement project.   www.honorsgradu.com/scholarship
USDA 1890s Scholars Program    full tuition, fees, books, room and board and a summer internship which may convert to full-time employment with USDA after graduation.  Must be accepted to one of the nineteen 1890 Land Grant Universities, have a 3.0 GPA, study ag, food, natural resources, or other related disciplines, demonstrate leadership and community service. Currently Kentucky State University is the only school in KY that qualifies as a Land Grant University.

GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program   $10,000-$40,000

To be eligible for this award, applicants must:

  • demonstrate at school, at the workplace, and within the community the attributes of leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship;
  • demonstrate strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent);
  • be citizens of the United States of America;
  • be current high school seniors attending high school in the United States (students living on U.S. Armed Forces base and homeschooled students are also eligible); and
  • plan to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study toward a bachelor’s degree at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.

Semifinalists will be required to provide a recommendation from a community leader, such as a high school principal, elected official or executive director of a nonprofit organization, and must provide documentation to certify academic performance and financial need. ST. Elizabeth Healthcare Scholarship    $2,000 Seniors must have a minimum 3.0 GPA, and pursuing a degree in healthcare field

KY Ag Athletes of the Year    $1,000 Student-athletes must be KY farmers or involved in agriculture, must be a senior, accepted to a college, university, or trade school. Ag major is not required, and preference will be given to KY colleges, out of state schools will be considered if the applicant is seeking a specialized degree in an ag field.

Holiday for Heroes   $2,000-$5,000 Graduating Senior who is a child of a Firefighter, or who is a child of a military service person, or who is a child of a Peace Officer. You may also be a senior who shows exemplary selfless attitude towards their school, community, and country.

Seniors who currently reside in a modular, manufactured or mobile homes are eligible to apply.

Students going into the construction industry are eligible to apply for the trade and apprenticeship scholarship as well.

Ripple Effect Scholarship   $500 To be eligible you must live in a county served by Kentucky American Water, be a senior and attending any accredited in-state or out-of-state university, college or trade school to pursue studies in an environmental, engineering or agricultural field. Martha Lee Stamper Extension Homemaker Scholarship   $500 Applicant must be a child, stepchild, or grandchild of an Owen County Extension Homemaker.  Must have a 2.0 or better GPA. Applications were emailed to

Owen County Cattleman's Association   $500 Applicants must be a senior at Owen County HS and a resident of Owen County. Kentucky Cattlemen's Association Scholarship    $1,500
  • You must be a graduate from a Kentucky high school in the year of application.

Culinary Scholarships (See Below)

There are several organizations that offer scholarships for culinary school. The James Beard Foundation makes dozens of scholarships available for study at institutions around the world, some for full-time study and some for cooking demonstration seminars. Awards are based on financial need and aptitude. Find out more by visiting www.jamesbeard.org. Awards for hospitality including culinary arts are available through the American Culinary Federation at www.acfchefs.org. The ACF website also includes a useful directory of accredited institutions.
